‘Yellow versus Purple’ Do colours exist when we are not looking at them?
I spent a long time in this space, I found it really calming. I loved the movement of the coloured circles and the repetitive pattern it creates. The idea of projecting colour to change the ambience of an environment interests me. Light is such a powerful element in design, as it is non physical it can be easily incorporated into interior design to transform the ambience and tone of the space.
Whilst I was at Antony Gormley’s exhibition, I was not only looking at his work but the actual gallery space itself was really beautiful and an art form in itself. The actual idea that there is a building which represents a blank ‘canvas’ in it’s form, lighting and colour is clever.
Yayoi Kusama has been a huge inspiration to my work. Similar to Ai Wei Wei's Jail revisited exhibition, Kusama boxes of infinity were incredible. From the outside the boxes a plain and white, however, once you are let in, it's like walking into another world, a infinite world created by Kusama. The mirrors create infinity in the interior space, the wild spotty 'tenticles' strangley felt quite natural, they reminded me of plants, the space kind me feel happy and inspired. I loved the idea of illusion in her designs, and how it affects your behaviour in the space.
Light Tunnel By James Turrel
These are my photographs of Turrel's light tunnel in Houston Contemporary Arts Museum. I loved to see the reflections and silouettes within the tunnel, the perspective created by the lights is phenomenal, the people look so far away. Walking through this tunnel made me feel very calm, the blue light sort of distorted reality, people became disguised it was more about shape and form rather then detail. This simplification was relaxing. Cassiopeia Collective ran a workshop which involved selecting architectural forms from paintings of St Jerome's studies, and rearranging the structures into new architectural landscapes with pencil on paper, it was amazing how different everyones designs where from looking at the same images. It was so interesting creating new images from traditional paintings.
Perspective Interchange: I really enjoyed the perspective workshop. I was inspired by Will Teather’s paintings, the illusion of space within his work is incredible, painting an areas or person through a specific viewpoint or lens is very technical, we were taught the different types of perspective such as Aerial Perspective, 1, 2 and 3 point perspective. I will research into perspective drawing during the summer and apply the techniques to my personal drawings of spaces.
